A roof in Jurupa Valley fails differently than a roof in Seattle. Ours are specified for heat, UV and thermal cycling — not for rain that mostly does not come.

A-03.B.1

What actually
kills roofs here

Inland Empire roofs rarely fail from water volume. They fail from ultraviolet degradation, from thermal cycling as surfaces swing through wide daily temperature ranges, and from the slow drying and cracking of underlayment and sealants that a coastal roof never experiences.

That changes what matters in a specification. Underlayment grade and ventilation detailing matter more here than they do in a wet climate. A roof that is fine on paper can cook itself out in fifteen years if the attic cannot breathe.

It also changes the honest advice. We will tell you when a roof has years left in it rather than selling you a replacement, and we will tell you when a coating is a false economy on a deck that has already gone.

How a re-roof
actually runs

Five stages. The third is the one where honest contractors and dishonest ones separate.

  1. 01

    Inspection

We get on the roof — not a drive-by from the street or a drone photo. Condition of the covering, flashings, valleys, penetrations and ventilation, plus any interior evidence of leaks. You get told what we find, including if the answer is that you do not need us yet.

  2. 02

    Tear-off

The old system comes off down to the deck. Overlaying new shingles over old is faster and cheaper and hides everything underneath it, which is exactly why we do not do it as a default.

  3. 03

    Deck inspection

With the covering off, the sheathing is visible for the first time. Rot, delamination and failed fasteners get found here. Any replacement needed is documented and priced as a written change order before it goes in — this is the stage where surprise invoices get manufactured, and where we do not.

  4. 04

    Dry-in and install

Underlayment, flashings, valleys, penetrations, then the covering. Flashing detail is what determines whether a roof leaks in ten years. It is invisible when finished, which is why it is where corners get cut.

  5. 05

    Cleanup and inspection

Magnetic sweep for fasteners, full debris removal, and we meet the inspector where the work is permitted. Then we walk it with you.

Common questions

Isolated damage from a specific event is usually repairable. Widespread granule loss, cracked or curling shingles across multiple slopes, brittle or displaced tile, or a deck that feels soft underfoot generally means the system is at end of life. We will tell you which one you have, and we have no incentive to rush a replacement we would then have to warrant.
A typical single-family shingle re-roof runs two to three days: tear-off and dry-in on the first day, install and detailing after. Tile takes longer. Flat roofs depend on what the deck looks like once the old system is off, which nobody can know in advance.
Both. Leak diagnosis, flashing and valley repair, and pre-purchase roof inspections are all regular work. A contractor who only quotes replacements is telling you something about their business model.
It depends on your roof's pitch, the structure's load capacity, your neighbourhood's aesthetic, and your budget horizon. Tile is superb here but heavy — the framing has to be rated for it. Metal reflects well and lasts a long time. Shingle is the sensible default for most pitched residential roofs. We recommend after seeing the roof, not before.
Yes. CSLB license #700519 carries a C-39 Roofing classification alongside the Class B General Building. Roofing is a specialty classification — a general contractor without a C-39 is not licensed to perform roofing as standalone work.
